Regrets: Dick Tilley
- Meeting called to order by Cheryl Kozey. The
main objective of the meeting to come up with nominations for
co-chair and vice president.

- It was suggested that we ask a representative
of the Nova Scotia Home and School Association to come and speak
at one of our meetings. We would like them to explain to us why
we should encourage our members to join. Many schools do not
have the resources to join on their own and we had hoped to be
able to provide them with materials from this organization but
we have received next to nothing from them.

- Minutes from the June 15/98 meeting read and
approved.

- Supplementary funding remains a hot topic. Still
forces in the Municipality that would like to see the end
of it. A letter from the District PTA is to be written soon concerning
the budget.

- Re hiring protocol : Some principals reported
that that the situation was not as serious as first feared. A
"job fair" was held to help match teachers up with the
best positions. There are still concerns about the hiring process
and we will look into it further.

- Contact and communications seen as a primary
concern of HDPTA. Pat Rhodenizer suggested a "phone blitz"
and offered to help.

- Treasurer's report read and passed.

- Focus for future meetings:

School Board representatives to be invited
in Nov and April
NSH&SA could be invited for February
Air Quality and Traffic Safety -perhaps
a combination at the Oct 19th
meeting. CASAL to be invited to make
a presentation. If both can't
be addressed in one meeting we could
also use the January meeting.
- Cheryl reported that she and Dick had filled
out a questionnaire over the summer setting out the qualities
they felt parents would like to see in a new Superintendent of
schools. A successor to Don Trider has not yet been announced.

10. Other issues suggested for consideration:
-the impact on former city schools of the lack of
planning in the
 suburban areas.
            -concern that advisory councils feel
they have less impact than had
been hoped when they began.
11. Meeting adjourned.
